Monica Semedo, member of the European Parliament for the Renew Europe Group joins liberal and democrat Luxembourgish party FOKUS for the European Elections.
Semedo was supported unanimously by FOKUS’ National Committee, presided by Mark Ruppert, on a meeting on Friday 23 of February.
After thorough discussions about the political and personal balance of 5 years of work in the European Parliament, it was agreed that Monica Semedo would be a candidate for the 2024 European elections.
“I am happy to support FOKUS as a member and candidate for the European elections. FOKUS represents the social liberal line, which I have also represented in the European Parliament for the last few years. I want to continue to advocate for people and equal opportunities for everyone”. Semedo said.
Semedo is Member of the Committee on Employment and Social Affairs and the Committee on Culture and Education and Substitute Member in the Committee of Economic and Monetary Affairs in the European Parliament.
She is also Co-Chair of the Disability Intergroup and of the Intergroup on Social Economy, Member of the Anti-Racism and Diversity Intergroup (ARDI) and Member of the EU Delegation to the OACPS-EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly.
As Cape Verdean descendant, she is very active in promoting diversity and combating racism across Europe and has inclusion and intersectionality as priorities, especially for minorities, people with disabilities and youth.
FOKUS will present the candidates list and the program for the elections in Congress on 23 March. The European Elections will take place on 9 june.
