That was my message today in Plenary for the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.
November 25 is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and the European Parliament set a debate this morning with the participation of Commissioner and Vice-President of the European Parliament Dubravka Šuica.
Domestic violence is not always visible and victims are often afraid to speak out,
to seek help, afraid of the consequences when, finally, they would manage to escape.
For my speech, my message was clear: Domestic violence is a crime, and it is a human right to be protected from it - everywhere.
We must move forward with legislation! That's why I call on the 6 EU Member States that refused so far: ratify the Istanbul Convention to protect women (in Europe).
